Twilight Sky over the Ocean City Skyline

Dramatic sky and lighting from Fenwick Island to Condo Row in Ocean City

The skyline of Ocean City, Maryland and Fenwick Island, Delaware is colorfully lit by the evening sun as it sets over the Delmarva Peninsula in the west . This photograph was captured from 350 feet in altitude over the community of West Fenwick and, looking toward the southeast, actually shows about 10 miles of shoreline along the coast. Assawoman Bay is the body of water in the foreground and the Atlantic Ocean, of course, is in the distance beyond the row of buildings on the island.

When photographing a sunset, even when creating an aerial image from a drone, it is always a good idea to look in the opposite direction from the sunset. Often the light from the setting sun will create a dramatic sky to the east – especially when there is a mixture of clouds from a passing storm.

    1. Thank you, Anne. A drone offers a “new perspective” to places that people cannot shoot with their own cell phones or cameras. This was captured with a DJI Mini SE.

  1. Good advice regards looking behind the sunset and a different perspective is always welcome, just not sure about this old dog learning a new trick with a drone 🙂

    1. When a spectacular sunset rivets one’s attention it is good to look all around. Often those spectacular colors may be lighting other cloud formations, creating even more beautiful scenes. Old dogs CAN learn new tricks – I offer myself up as an example. LOL

  2. Love it. I haven’t flown my drone, JDI Mini 2, in months. I must get it back out as well as start studying for my commercial drone pilot license. Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. Time to get to it, Bob. It offers a great new perspective for landscape photographers. I sold two photographs last week – that I just posted a couple days before.
