Ocean City Air Show

A great kickoff to the summer season is the air show over the beach in Ocean City, MD.

A Crowd of thousands packed the Boardwalk every year for the Ocean City Air Show.

Heading down to Ocean City in June? What a great way to start the summer…with Ocean City’s air show over the beach. This air show is becoming a signature event for the beach resort town. It will absolutely thrill anyone who comes to town on the right weekend in June.

The OC Air Show certainly opens the beach summer season in style. Visit OCAirShow.com for more details.

It’s “Up, Up and Away” for Ocean City, MD as the airshow returns to Ocean City each June. Military aircraft demonstrations, low altitude flyovers and civilian aerobatic performances will take place over the Ocean City beachfront from noon to 3:30 p.m. each day (times are usual but approximate). The air show will be visible along the majority of the Boardwalk creating an inspiring experience for visitors while they enjoy the hospitality of Ocean City’s beach and attractions. Interactive displays and exhibits, including (sometimes) NASA’s Exploration Experience, will be open to the public on the streets surrounding Show Center at 16th Street on the Boardwalk. Show Center Beach, extending from 15th to 17th streets will offer premium viewing opportunities and the VIP flight line clubhouse for public attendees. Elevated sky boxes in the Quality Inn Boardwalk, headquarters hotel for the show and waterfront hospitality chalets on the beach will be available to businesses and groups. See the show website for more details at OCAirShow.com.

U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds do a back-to-back flight over the OC beach.

The United States Air Force Thunderbirds are a crowd pleaser wherever they perform. Their flight routine over the beach at Ocean City, Maryland is no exception. The 6-plane formation breaks into the “traditional” 4-plane diamond for precise aerial maneuvers with the remaining two jets doing individual and paired flyby “surprises” for the thousands of people on the beach and boardwalk.

A bit of narrative from the archives over a decade ago – but the excitement still prevails today…

“The inaugural OC Air Show was a fantastic and highly successful event for our community,” said Mayor Rick Meehan (back in 2009). “The move to a weekend and the prospect of a step up in performers offered great potential for the show’s return in 2009.” Next year’s show will be even better (ed. comment).

“The entire Thunderbird team is looking forward to coming to Ocean City,” said Captain Jason McCree, Thunderbird #12, the team’s public affairs officer. “We are humbled at the opportunity to represent service men and women across the globe who defend our freedoms.” The GEICO Skytypers and the U.S. Air Force Reserve Bi-Plane piloted by Ed Hamill have announced that they will join the 2009 air show line up.

Military aircraft demonstrations, low altitude fly-overs and civilian aerobatic performances will take place over the Ocean City beach front from noon to 3 p.m. each day. The air show will be visible along the majority of the Boardwalk creating an inspiring experience for visitors while they enjoy the hospitality of Ocean City’s beach and attractions.

On the day before the Air Show, the Ocean City Municipal Airport may be hosting an open house. This is where some of the performing aircraft, along with other airplanes, can be seen “up close and personal.”
